Co-Founder of The KAR Shop,
ASE Master Technician
Jack Kingston’s journey into the automotive repair industry was inspired by his father, a skilled mechanic who could fix just about anything. Growing up in Toms River, New Jersey, Jack spent his early years learning from his dad and refining his skills at an ARCO gas station, where the owners, the Canfields, mentored him in both auto repair and business operations. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong career in automotive service.
In 1976, Jack moved his family to Clarksdale, Mississippi, to help his brother-in-law, Jimmy Fox, run a used car lot that included a small repair shop. While the car sales business thrived, the repair side quickly became even more successful, proving the community’s need for a trusted mechanic. It was in this shop that Jack fine-tuned his expertise, earning his ASE Master Certification and mentoring his brother Keith, who later became a Master Technician as well.
After visiting Northwest Arkansas on vacation, Jack fell in love with the area and made the decision to move there, working at a Ford dealership while Keith stayed behind at a Chevrolet dealership. However, the dream of running their own business never faded. Jack and Keith eventually decided to take the leap and open their own shop. They searched for the perfect location and ultimately built The KAR Shop from the ground up, opening its doors on June 6, 2006.
From the beginning, their vision was clear: to create a repair shop that customers could trust, where quality service and integrity would define their reputation. The early days were slow, as with any new business, but through word of mouth and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, The KAR Shop grew into one of the most respected auto repair businesses in the area.
Jack took great pride in ensuring that every customer left satisfied, with repairs done right the first time. His focus on quality, honesty, and building relationships with customers led to generations of loyal clients—parents who once brought their cars in for repairs now send their grown children to The KAR Shop.
Over the years, Jack and his team embraced technological advancements in the automotive industry, continually upgrading tools and diagnostic equipment to keep pace with evolving vehicle systems. He also believed in fostering a supportive, team-oriented work environment, ensuring that every technician and service advisor was ASE-certified and dedicated to maintaining the shop’s high standards.
Beyond business, Jack and The KAR Shop have given back to the community in meaningful ways, including donating cars to single mothers in need. These acts of service remain some of his proudest moments.
Though Jack has since stepped into retirement, his presence at the shop continues. He still stops by on Mondays, checking in with the team, making deposits, and staying connected with the business he helped build. His advice to the current team and leadership is simple but powerful: “Stay the course, do not waver, and always do the right thing—even when it’s hard.”
Jack hopes The KAR Shop will continue to uphold its reputation for quality and integrity, growing in recognition as the area’s top repair shop. More than anything, he wants customers to remember him as someone who helped change the perception of the auto repair industry—one honest, reliable service at a time.
Co-founder of The KAR Shop,
ASE Master Technician
Keith Kingston’s story begins in New Jersey, where he was born, but his childhood took him between Toms River, NJ and Bonita Springs, FL. Growing up, Keith’s love for cars started early. His dad owned service stations and worked on fleet vehicles, and Keith often tagged along. Weekends were spent watching his dad fix trucks and cars, amazed at how his father could get everything back on the road again. That early exposure planted the seed for what would become Keith’s lifelong career.
After high school at Cypress Lakes in Florida, Keith went straight to Lee County Vo-Tech for a two-year program in Automotive Theory and Repair. From the moment he picked up a wrench, Keith never looked back.
Keith has been working in the automotive industry since the mid-1970s, spending years with GM dealerships, independent shops, and even a Florida restoration shop. It was in 2006 that Keith made one of his proudest moves: opening The KAR Shop with his older brother Jack. For Keith, it was more than starting a business; it was a dream come true.
Keith has always been drawn to Heavy Line Work — engine repairs, manual transmissions, drive trains, and rear axles. “When you’re using an engine hoist,” he says, “you know you’re working on the good kind of jobs.” He also has a soft spot for antique cars, which remind him just how far the industry has come.
Over the years, Keith has earned and maintained impressive certifications: ASE Master Certified Technician since 1979, with master certifications from Chevrolet, GMC Medium Duty, and Hyundai. He stays sharp through training and is an alum of the Automotive Training Institute, keeping The KAR Shop running smoothly.
Keith’s career has seen its share of memorable moments. One of his favorites? A Cadillac with a gas pedal that pushed back. The culprit? A cat stuck in a leg trap draped across the engine. Each press of the pedal pushed the poor cat against the hot exhaust, and it pushed back—angrily! It took Keith and Jack 30 minutes to free the cat, which bolted out of the shop like a rocket.
When Keith isn’t at the shop, he and his wife, Gina—his best friend and partner in life—enjoy car events like Cars and Coffee. Gina loves her Saturn Redline they rebuilt together, while Keith’s toys include a 1970 Chevelle and a USRA Dirt B Modified race car he takes to Monett Speedway. Though a Chevy guy at heart, his dream car is the Shelby Cobra, followed closely by the 1965 Chevelle and ’65 Mustang Fastback.
Keith is proud of his role on the Garfield Planning Commission and the hardworking crew at The KAR Shop. “They’re the backbone of what we do,” he says. For Keith, fixing cars isn’t just a job—it’s a lifelong passion.
General Manager, ASE Certified
With over 40 years of experience in the automotive industry, Kevin Braker brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a passion for service to The KAR Shop. Originally from Carthage, Missouri, Kevin grew up in Remington, Indiana, and Roanoke, Illinois, where he developed his mechanical skills under the guidance of his father and grandfathers. Their influence sparked his interest in all things mechanical, leading him to study Gas and Diesel Engine Technology at Quincy Technical Schools.
Kevin joined The KAR Shop in 2017 and now focuses on management, staff training, and business growth. He takes pride in finding opportunities to develop his team and provide outstanding customer service. One of his greatest professional joys is turning difficult situations—whether with customers or employees—into positive, lasting relationships built on trust and respect.
Over the years, Kevin has taken on a variety of unique experiences, including working on heavy equipment for Vermeer under extreme conditions and getting to be on a pit crew for Dale Earnhardt…once—where he may have only thrown a tire over the wall, but it was still an unforgettable experience.
A firm believer in staying ahead of the curve, Kevin embraces the technological advancements in the automotive industry. He is particularly excited about the potential of AI and virtual reality to revolutionize repair processes. His favorite tool in the shop is the computer, as he takes pride in how technologically advanced The KAR Shop has become as an independent business.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys life on Beaver Lake, where he spends time boating, swimming, and enjoying motorsports. His greatest joys, however, are spending time with his grandson, Marvin and traveling with Janice. While he doesn’t have any current project cars, he dreams of getting his hands on a 1970-72 Buick Gran Sport or a ’77 or ’78 Trans Am someday.
Kevin’s leadership extends beyond the shop—he previously served as mayor of Roanoke, Illinois, and on a Tri-County Planning Commission alongside Ray LaHood, who was Secretary of Transportation under President Obama. A lover of music, especially acapella, Kevin has an appreciation for nearly every genre.
Above all, Kevin is grateful for his wife, Janice, whom he considers his greatest blessing, and their three adult children, Jon, Jake, and Kelly. Moving to Northwest Arkansas and working at The KAR Shop has been one of the best parts of his life. He deeply values the family-like atmosphere of the shop, crediting the owners, Jack and Keith, and the entire team for making it such a special place to work.
